Remove from Group - The member will automatically be removed from the paid group and will no longer have access to any paid content. However, they will still be a member of your community, and they can access any free content.
Requires Resubscription - This option will revoke the member's access to the community entirely. They will need to resubscribe in order to log in and have access to your community.

Multiple Tiers (ex. Gold, Silver, Bronze): Toggle this on if you want to create a paid product with different tiers and price points.
When you enable Multiple Tiers, you'll have an option for upsells so that members can upgrade to a higher tier. (If you have a paid product that is a group, check out the next section on how to Show Upsells for Groups). This is different than offering upsells for tiers.)

Choose Group: Search for and select the group that you want to attach to the paid product. You can also create a new group here by typing in the group name that you want to create.
Group Name: Whatever group that was selected in the Choose Group step will automatically show up here.
Group Description (Optional): Add in a description of what the group is for and about.
Show Upsells for Group: Click to toggle this on if you want members that are not part of the paid group to be able to see a customized upsell in Heartbeat to join the paid group. Non-group members will see a padlock and a preview, along with the upsell message and optional video.

You are able to edit a paid group by clicking on the 3 dots to the right and then clicking on Edit.
Changes to the subscription expiration (remove from group or resubscribe), the group description, and the payment setup (currency and payment options) can be made. It is not possible to change a paid group from a single tier to multiple tiers (vice versa) or the paid group name.
You are able to review the members of a paid group, add them to the paid group, and make members exempt from paying by clicking on the 3 dots to the right and then clicking on Manage Members.
Any existing members can be added to the paid group here. Click on the Select a user... section, search for the member's name, and then Add.

A list of existing members will be displayed along with their status (active or onboarding incomplete).
For members that have gone through onboarding, you can add them as a pre-onboard exemption. With a pre-onboard exemption, they can sign up through the invitation link and bypass the paywall. We've seen this used to give free access to members that have paid outside of Heartbeat or have earned free access for other reasons (ex. giveaway).
To add them to the pre-onboard exemptions list, type in their email address in the Enter emails section, and then click Add.
Note: Multiple email addresses can be added at one time by adding commas or line breaks.

Any past members of the paid group will be listed in this section.
Promo codes can be an effective way to attract more purchasers to your paid groups. Luckily, Stripe makes it easy to create and manage your promo codes.
Once you have clicked on the 3 dots and then Promo Codes (Stripe), you will be prompted to provide a name and discount amount for your promotion code. You can also set date limitations, multiple promo codes, and other limits.
Hit Save and the promo code is now active.
To access, edit, or delete your promo codes simply follow the first three steps from the guide above.
If you'd like to view reports on the usage of your promo codes, you can find them under the Reports tab.

There are 6 payment options to choose from for your paid group. You can select multiple payment options for the same product.
Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly subscription (the member pays on a fixed subscription schedule. When they stop paying, they lose access to the product.)
One Time payment (the member pays once to acquire the product.)
Installments (you can choose the number and frequency of payments. The member will retain the paid product at the end of the installment period.)
How can members join the paid group?

The create group modal will have a variety of settings for you to make the group work for your specific needs. Below, you'll find explanations of each setting for creating a new group:
Give your group a name.
Describe the purpose of this group. Members will see this description below the group name when they are considering joining.
Choosing a color for your group will clearly separate one group from another. It will also help make the group look and feel like your brand. Choose a default color or select your own custom color.
You can choose how members gain access to the group.
Admin-Controlled:
Only admins can add and remove members to this group. Members cannot join the group without an admin adding them manually.
Joinable:
Members can join or leave the group on their own. If this is a paid group, members will need to pass the paywall before joining the group.
Automated:
Members are automatically added and removed from this group based on a set of filter criteria set by the admin. Learn more about Automated Membership filters here.
You can choose to make your group visibility default, a badge, or hidden.
Default:
Everyone in the community is able to see this group. The group is visible on member profiles.
Badge:
Everyone in the community is able to see this group. The group appears as a badge next to a member's name in threads, comments, and messages.
Hidden:
Only admins can see this group. The group is not visible on member profiles.
If turned on, members of this group will only be able to see administrators, moderators & other members of this group across Heartbeat. This affects areas such as the Online Users section, direct messages, the user directory and @ mentions. Administrators & moderators are unaffected by this setting. Learn more here.
To create a subgroup, click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name and then click on Create Subgroup.

Once you create your group, you can manage it by going to Settings > Manage groups anytime. Read more about managing groups here.
To make changes to the group name, description, color, etc., click on the 3 dots to the right and then Edit.
Note: For Parent Groups, there will be a Single Select toggle option. If it is toggled on, then members are only allowed to be part of one subgroup. They will not be able to join multiple subgroups.
To add an existing group as a subgroup, click on the 3 dots to the right and then Move. From there, choose the parent group.
To delete a group, click on the 3 dots to right and then Delete. A prompt will popup confirming that you'd like to delete the group. Click Delete to confirm.
Note: If a group is associated with a course, then it can't be deleted. The course will need to be deleted first in order for the group to be deleted.
To add, delete, or view a list of members, click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name, and the Manage Members.
To add members to the group, click on the Search for users, and then scroll through the list or type in their name.

To delete members from the group, click on the x to the right of their name.

After you've made changes, click Save.
You can create a post in threads that will allow members to join the group. Type in $join and then select the group name or type in the group name.

Admins can add manually add members to a group from Settings > Manage Groups.
Click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name to Manage Members.

To add a subgroup, go to Settings > Manage Groups. Find the group you want to add a subgroup to, and then click on the 3 dots to the right to Create Subgroup.
You can also make an existing group a subgroup by clicking on the 3 dots to the right of the group name, and then Move.

You have the option to create and ask different questions, which group they want to join, have the intro post to automatically reflect in the introductions channel β or whichever channel you like, share social links, and have them read your community's code of conduct.
Click on the 'Preview' button to be taken through the onboarding flow.
Click 'Save' at the top of the page to save any changes.
You can set up onboarding questions to be required, to include the answers in their bio, or to be kept private.
To add a new question, click on the 'Add Question' button. To delete a question, click on the X to the right of the question.
After making any changes, be sure to save your work by scrolling up to click on the 'Save' button. Alternatively, you can also preview the onboarding flow before deciding to save.
If you select the 'Private' option, the answers will be available on a CSV in Settings > All Users > Download CSV or you can expand the user profile on your All Users pages.

If groups do not appear during the onboarding process, it may be due to missing subgroups in your setup. Here's how to resolve the issue:
Check Group Settings:
Go to General Settings > Manage Group to ensure subgroups are set up within the relevant groups. Without subgroups, groups won't be visible during the onboarding selection.
Create an Onboarding Profile:
You'll need to create an onboarding profile to display groups during onboarding. In this profile, select the group that contains the subgroups. If you want to keep certain subgroups isolated, you can also control subgroup visibility by adjusting their settings.
Configure Onboarding Flow:
Verify that the onboarding process has been properly set up under Settings > Onboarding Setup. Here, you can add groups to the onboarding flow, ensuring they are visible to members during the onboarding process.
Once these settings are properly configured, members will be prompted to select their group(s) during onboarding.
Can I add geo-location to onboarding?
Yes you can! At the bottom of the onboarding profile setup, toggle on \"Location\"
Can I choose to post intro answers in more than one channel?
Unfortunately, not at this time.
Can I turn intro posts in threads off?
Yes, toggle the Intros Channel button off.
What social links can be included in the Onboarding Setup?
LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Website, and Calendar.
How can I include a welcome video in my onboarding flow?
Toggle the Video button on, and then add a link to your onboarding video.
Is it possible to have a code of conduct or terms and conditions when someone signs up?
Yes, click the Code of Conduct button to toggle it on. Then select the doc you want to use as your code of conduct. Members will be prompted to agree to the terms before completing the sign up. You can preview how it will look by scrolling to the top of the page and then clicking on Preview.
Where can I find the answers to private onboarding questions?
The answers to private onboarding questions can be found in Settings > All Users > Download CSV.
How can I make members join a group when onboarding?

Courses in Heartbeat allow you to build learning journeys in your community that increase engagement.
Find your Courses section on the left sidebar of your community (If you don't see the courses tab, toggle it on here). Courses can be integrated with other pieces of content in your community to craft a unified experience for members. For example, you can create a course that includes:
Discussion channels for members of the course to chat openly;
Live events tied to lessons or recurring events for instructor office hours;
Automated recurring matchups for members of the course;
Document sections only available to course participants.
When creating a course, you'll walk through a process to set up the overall structure of how you will deliver content. You can choose from 2 different course structures:
π² Evergreen: Always available courses. Lessons can be dripped out over time.
π₯ Cohort-Based: Courses run in groups with fixed start and end times. (i.e. bootcamps, fellowships, etc.)

Right now, we don't have grading capabilities built into Heartbeat. Assignments in Heartbeat can be reviewed by an admin (and submissions can be file uploads or long-response text), but cannot be graded in-app. With the latest update we pushed to courses, we support a more seamless external assignments experience.
So, if you utilize external platforms (like Quizlet, Google Forms, etc.) for assignments, we will guide students in the correct direction and prompt them to mark that they've completed the assignment from within Heartbeat after they click the link.
You can copy a module from one course to another using the Import feature.
Go to the course where you want to add the module.
Navigate to Add Content.
Select Import and choose the course that contains the module you wish to copy.

To start, you'll need to connect with Stripe from Settings > Monetization.
After clicking on the button to the right, a new window will open up to connect with Stripe. Fill in your email address, and then follow the steps after to connect with Stripe.

Note: If you have an existing Stripe account, you can use the same email address here. Your HB Stripe account and your main Stripe account will be linked automatically.
Paid products can be created in HB after connecting to Stripe. Click on the + Create Product button, and then follow the steps from there.
Subscription Expiration: What do you want to happen after a members stops paying (unsubscribes)
Remove from Group - The member will automatically be removed from the paid group and will no longer have access to any paid content. However, they will still be a member of your community, and they can access any free content.
Requires Resubscription - This option will revoke the member's access to the community entirely. They will need to resubscribe in order to log in and have access to your community.
Multiple Tiers (ex. Gold, Silver, Bronze): Toggle this on if you want to create a paid product with different tiers and price points.
When you enable Multiple Tiers, you'll have an option for upsells so that members can upgrade to a higher tier. (If you have a paid product that is a group, check out the next section on how to Show Upsells for Groups). This is different than offering upsells for tiers.)
Choose Group: Search for and select the group that you want to attach to the paid product. You can also create a new group here by typing in the group name that you want to create.
Group Name: Whatever group that was selected in the Choose Group step will automatically show up here.
Group Description (Optional): Add in a description of what the group is for and about.
Show Upsells for Group: Click to toggle this on if you want members that are not part of the paid group to be able to see a customized upsell in Heartbeat to join the paid group. Non-group members will see a padlock and a preview, along with the upsell message and optional video.
Currency: Select the currency you want to use.
Note: If the currency option you want isn't available, please, reach out to support.
Payment Option: Add any payment options for the paid group here.
Note: You are able to add more than one payment option (monthly, quarterly, etc.) by clicking on the plus sign to the right.
Free Trial: You can add a free trial time period here by clicking on the plus sign to the right.
Review the paid product, and then click on Create.

You can make changes to a paid group by clicking on the 3 dots to the right.
You are able to edit a paid group by clicking on the 3 dots to the right and then clicking on Edit.
Changes to the subscription expiration (remove from group or resubscribe), the group description, and the payment setup (currency and payment options) can be made. It is not possible to change a paid group from a single tier to multiple tiers (vice versa) or the paid group name.
You are able to review the members of a paid group, add them to the paid group, and make members exempt from paying by clicking on the 3 dots to the right and then clicking on Manage Members.
Any existing members can be added to the paid group here. Click on the Select a user... section, search for the member's name, and then Add.
A list of existing members will be displayed along with their status (active or onboarding incomplete).
For members that have gone through onboarding, you can add them as a pre-onboard exemption. With a pre-onboard exemption, they can sign up through the invitation link and bypass the paywall. We've seen this used to give free access to members that have paid outside of Heartbeat or have earned free access for other reasons (ex. giveaway).
To add them to the pre-onboard exemptions list, type in their email address in the Enter emails section, and then click Add.
Note: Multiple email addresses can be added at one time by adding commas or line breaks.
Any past members of the paid group will be listed in this section.
Promo codes can be an effective way to attract more purchasers to your paid groups. Luckily, Stripe makes it easy to create and manage your promo codes.
Once you have clicked on the 3 dots and then Promo Codes (Stripe), you will be prompted to provide a name and discount amount for your promotion code. You can also set date limitations, multiple promo codes, and other limits.
Hit Save and the promo code is now active.
To access, edit, or delete your promo codes simply follow the first three steps from the guide above.
If you'd like to view reports on the usage of your promo codes, you can find them under the Reports tab.

After clicking on Delete, a pop up will display asking if you want to delete or keep the groups associated to the product. Select Either Keep Groups or Delete Groups.

How can a member cancel or change their payment method?

What are the available payment options for paid groups?
There are 6 payment options to choose from for your paid group. You can select multiple payment options for the same product.
Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly subscription (the member pays on a fixed subscription schedule. When they stop paying, they lose access to the product.)
One Time payment (the member pays once to acquire the product.)
Installments (you can choose the number and frequency of payments. The member will retain the paid product at the end of the installment period.)
How can members join the paid group?

This powerful feature lets you establish sub-communities, affinity groups, and badges within your main community, enabling closer connections and tailored experiences for your members.
Go to Settings > Manage Groups to create your first Heartbeat group.
The create group modal will have a variety of settings for you to make the group work for your specific needs. Below, you'll find explanations of each setting for creating a new group:
Give your group a name.
Describe the purpose of this group. Members will see this description below the group name when they are considering joining.
Choosing a color for your group will clearly separate one group from another. It will also help make the group look and feel like your brand. Choose a default color or select your own custom color.
You can choose how members gain access to the group.
Admin-Controlled:
Only admins can add and remove members to this group. Members cannot join the group without an admin adding them manually.
Joinable:
Members can join or leave the group on their own. If this is a paid group, members will need to pass the paywall before joining the group.
Automated:
Members are automatically added and removed from this group based on a set of filter criteria set by the admin. Learn more about Automated Membership filters here.
You can choose to make your group visibility default, a badge, or hidden.
Default:
Everyone in the community is able to see this group. The group is visible on member profiles.
Badge:
Everyone in the community is able to see this group. The group appears as a badge next to a member's name in threads, comments, and messages.
Hidden:
Only admins can see this group. The group is not visible on member profiles.
If turned on, members of this group will only be able to see administrators, moderators & other members of this group across Heartbeat. This affects areas such as the Online Users section, direct messages, the user directory and @ mentions. Administrators & moderators are unaffected by this setting. Learn more here.
To create a subgroup, click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name and then click on Create Subgroup.
Once you create your group, you can manage it by going to Settings > Manage groups anytime. Read more about managing groups here.
To make changes to the group name, description, color, etc., click on the 3 dots to the right and then Edit.
Note: For Parent Groups, there will be a Single Select toggle option. If it is toggled on, then members are only allowed to be part of one subgroup. They will not be able to join multiple subgroups.
To add an existing group as a subgroup, click on the 3 dots to the right and then Move. From there, choose the parent group.
To delete a group, click on the 3 dots to right and then Delete. A prompt will popup confirming that you'd like to delete the group. Click Delete to confirm.
Note: If a group is associated with a course, then it can't be deleted. The course will need to be deleted first in order for the group to be deleted.
To add, delete, or view a list of members, click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name, and the Manage Members.
To add members to the group, click on the Search for users, and then scroll through the list or type in their name.
To delete members from the group, click on the x to the right of their name.
After you've made changes, click Save.
You can create a post in threads that will allow members to join the group. Type in $join and then select the group name or type in the group name.
You can create an invitation link for the group. Non-members can use the link to sign up for your community and will automatically be added to the group. Existing members can use the link to join the group.

Members can join any joinable groups through Settings > My Groups.
When signing up for your community, a member can select a group to join.

Admins can add manually add members to a group from Settings > Manage Groups.
Click on the 3 dots to the right of the group name to Manage Members.
To add a subgroup, go to Settings > Manage Groups. Find the group you want to add a subgroup to, and then click on the 3 dots to the right to Create Subgroup.
You can also make an existing group a subgroup by clicking on the 3 dots to the right of the group name, and then Move.
Courses in Heartbeat allow you to build learning journeys in your community that increase engagement.
Find your Courses section on the left sidebar of your community (If you don't see the courses tab, toggle it on here). Courses can be integrated with other pieces of content in your community to craft a unified experience for members. For example, you can create a course that includes:
Discussion channels for members of the course to chat openly;
Live events tied to lessons or recurring events for instructor office hours;
Automated recurring matchups for members of the course;
Document sections only available to course participants.
When creating a course, you'll walk through a process to set up the overall structure of how you will deliver content. You can choose from 2 different course structures:
π² Evergreen: Always available courses. Lessons can be dripped out over time.
π₯ Cohort-Based: Courses run in groups with fixed start and end times. (i.e. bootcamps, fellowships, etc.)

Right now, we don't have grading capabilities built into Heartbeat. Assignments in Heartbeat can be reviewed by an admin (and submissions can be file uploads or long-response text), but cannot be graded in-app. With the latest update we pushed to courses, we support a more seamless external assignments experience.
So, if you utilize external platforms (like Quizlet, Google Forms, etc.) for assignments, we will guide students in the correct direction and prompt them to mark that they've completed the assignment from within Heartbeat after they click the link.
You can copy a module from one course to another using the Import feature.
Go to the course where you want to add the module.
Navigate to Add Content.
Select Import and choose the course that contains the module you wish to copy.
This will allow you to easily transfer modules between courses without manually recreating content.
